Manisha Shah-Bugaj
CEO
Manisha Shah-Bugaj is Chief Executive Officer of Activ Surgical and an accomplished global medtech executive with more than two decades of experience building and scaling businesses, commercializing innovative medical technologies, and leading high-performing organizations.
Manisha joined Activ Surgical in January 2022 as Chief Operating Officer, leading business operations and commercialization. As CEO, she is leading Activ’s evolution into a surgical intelligence company, advancing technology that delivers real-time, objective insights to surgeons when and where they matter most. Her vision is to expand surgical intelligence across platforms and clinical applications and ultimately make it a standard of care.
Prior to Activ Surgical, Manisha spent more than 15 years at Olympus Corporation, where she built and expanded the U.S. gynecology business and ultimately served as General Manager and Global Vice President. She was the first woman to lead a U.S. business unit at Olympus and, at the time, one of only two women to oversee a global business within the organization. She also played an integral role in expanding the gynecology business internationally.
Manisha is known for combining strategic vision with disciplined execution and building cultures grounded in transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. She is passionate about translating innovation into meaningful clinical and commercial impact that improves the way surgery is performed.
Manisha holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering and a Master of Engineering Management from Dartmouth College.
Matt McKittrick
Chief Commercial Officer
Matthew McKittrick is Chief Commercial Officer of Activ Surgical and an accomplished medtech executive with extensive experience commercializing innovative surgical technologies, building markets, and driving global growth.
At Activ Surgical, Matthew leads the company’s global commercial strategy across sales, marketing, clinical development, reimbursement, and market development. He is focused on accelerating adoption of Activ’s surgical intelligence technology, expanding its clinical applications, and building strategic partnerships that extend the reach of the company’s technology across surgical platforms and healthcare systems.
Throughout his career, Matthew has worked closely with leading surgeons, healthcare systems, and industry partners to build the clinical and commercial foundation for emerging technologies. His experience spans early-stage medtech companies, including Momentis Surgical, and global industry leaders such as Stryker, giving him a unique ability to combine startup agility with the discipline required to scale technologies globally.
Prior to Activ Surgical, Matthew held senior commercial leadership roles at NOVADAQ Technologies, where he contributed to the company’s growth and its $701 million acquisition by Stryker. His experience spans clinical validation, market development, strategic partnerships, regulatory and reimbursement pathways, and global commercialization.
Matthew is passionate about translating differentiated technologies into solutions that deliver meaningful value for surgeons, healthcare systems, and patients.
Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts from DeSales University.
Wei Kang
VP of Technology
Wei Kang, Ph.D. is VP of Technology at Activ Surgical and an accomplished R&D leader with more than 15 years of experience leading the research and development of complex laser-based and opto-mechanical medical device platforms.
At Activ Surgical, Wei leads the company’s R&D organization across hardware, software, and systems engineering. He is responsible for the technology roadmap for Activ’s next-generation imaging and AI platforms, ensuring the company’s technical strategy translates into integrated, market-ready solutions. His approach to R&D is grounded in customer-centered design, rapid iteration, and cost-conscious engineering, paired with a willingness to dive deep into a problem until the best solution — not just the fastest one — is found.
Throughout his career, Wei has built and led multidisciplinary R&D teams spanning laser, opto-electro-mechanical, software, and AI disciplines, translating unmet clinical needs into differentiated products. His experience spans early-stage medtech companies, including Perceptive Technologies, KOTL LLC, and PhotoniCare, and established industry platforms such as St. Jude Medical, giving him a unique ability to combine startup agility with the discipline required to scale technologies through FDA and NMPA clearance.
Wei is passionate about translating unmet clinical needs into differentiated technologies that deliver meaningful value for surgeons and patients.
Wei holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University.
